David Jones today launched its Autumn Winter 2017 campaign: live outside of the seasons. Speaking to the endless possibilities for weathering any given moment – come rain, hail or shine – in style, the campaign is headlined by American supermodel Karlie Kloss, set against a backdrop that embodies the emotive shifts in the climate of the Southern Hemisphere.
To launch the season, London-based film director Ujin Lin – whose previous clients include Prada, Calvin Klein, and Alexander McQueen – has created two distinct motion pieces, each encapsulating the boundlessness of the temperamental Australian climate.
Set in ever-changing conditions, the short films follow Kloss alongside Ruby-Jean Wilson, Yifan Zhang and Zoe Barnard, as they battle against the elements in the new collections of Australian and international designers.
Complementing these motion pieces, the Autumn Winter 2017 still campaign features David Jones ambassadors Jessica Gomes and Jesinta Campbell. Captured by the celebrated Australian photographer Hannah Scott, and styled by JONES Magazine Fashion Director Thelma McQuillan, the campaign exhibits the key trends of the AW season, including bomber jackets, luxe denim, vintage-inspired floral prints, and reimagined leather.
So what’s new this season? Padding, protective lines and cosy knits came together on the catwalks, perhaps as a shelter from the doom and gloom of a world in crisis. But if trends are truly heading for more and more comfort, fashion is retaining its sense of fun, its color and glamour, always with an sense of determination and self-assuredness.
